The holiday season always slows my writing as we enter concert season for PMAC programs, so I’m making sure to keep up with some Friday Inspiration posts. We kicked off the month of concerts on Sunday with a few youth recitals and continued tonight with performances by our adult rock and blues bands. We have more concerts for the next ten days, before taking a little break. It’s an exciting time of year. Four bands performed tonight: Classic Rock, Alt Rock, and two bands in a program called Roots, Rock Blues, and Beyond.
I always find these continuing education programs for adults incredibly inspiring. Guitarists, drummers, singers, and more, finding their inner rocker under the guidance of a seasoned professional who coaches the bands during the months leading up to the show.
Tonight, the bands performed a 2+ hour show at 3S Artspace, a premiere performance venue in our community. Being able to perform in front of a large audience, with professional lighting and sound is an incredible experience.
Over the years, many alumni of these programs have gone on to start their own independent bands and begin gigging through the community outside of the umbrella of the school. It’s one of the coolest aspects of what we do, and I’m always incredibly proud when I see these musicians break out on their own.
Here are some photos, and a little video, from tonight’s show. These ensembles follow the New Horizons Music philosophy: “your best is good enough.” Bringing together diverse groups of people to make music together. The whole is always greater than the sum of parts - truly magical. I hope you are inspired by these amazing people, who are putting it all out there and taking incredible risks exploring their creativity. Enjoy!
